I hope you liked the first part of this article which was about “how to identify over-passionate employees working in your organization”, this part of the article will talk about how managers should handle such employees that are unusual yet beneficial for the companies to get desired ROI. Well, it is true that over passionate employees might affect the working environment inversely, but on the other end they can teach many lessons too.
As we discussed about over-passionate employees earlier in the article “Tips to Identify Over-Passionate Employees and to Manage them Effectively – Part 1”, this second part of the article is about: how a manager or leader should deal with these special people and recognize their true talent and use it positively? The answer to this question lies in the aspects discussed below. They might be different than others and unintentionally they encourage other employees to build negative impression about them. Actually, it’s their behavior and working style that makes them stand out of the crowd. Managers or leaders can build and implement different strategies to manage such employees. Utilizing their best talent might be difficult but it is really possible that they may change the game tremendously. Tips for Managers / Leaders to Handle over – Passionate Employees Evaluate Differently To evaluate unusual people, leaders need to design and implement unusual strategies. Acting quickly is the one of the method that can be used to neutralize a situation. Consider their working skills, working style, method to react at things, behavior with colleagues and the quality of the work they perform. Give them time to adjust in the environment prior to start judging them. Make them feel comfortable by offering work flexibility if you feel this is the employee that can really affect growth of your organization in a positive way. Make a Strategy By studying their personality and capabilities, managers should design unmatched evaluation strategy. Dealing with them emotionally, makes them feel strong and powerful, which energizes their skills and productivity. HR manager needs to act spontaneously with these special employees to streamline their talent with the requirement of their skills for organization to grow. When the plan is already built, it’s the time to implement it and check the outcome. Consider the Work Rather than their Behavior Many a times, managers or leaders make the mistake to judge such employees by their behavior rather than the work they do. They may be harsh or rude, but being different, it might be their way to complete their work. They never compromise with their work quality, and so for them work matters rather than their behavior. So it is good to judge them by the work they accomplish and their behavior or unacceptable working method can be neglected if he/she is a prominent employee. Counsel the Behavioral Reasons Listen to your employees actively prior to reaching to any judgmental situation. Stay calm and listen to what they have to add to make the working of the organization simple and effective. Respond to their points very politely to make them feel you are concerned about them. Find a solution to make the work environment pleasant and easy. Counsel them and find out the reason for abrupt behavior to help them maintain a respectful environment at workplace. Thus, by practicing the tips mentioned above, you can manage challenging and over-passionate employees very easily. Dedicated employees can manage themselves, but over dedicated employees needs inputs from the management to help the organization perform remarkably well.
